Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages) is interested in developing and supporting the English skill building initiatives in the Higher education sector. Cambridge ESOL is a department of the University of Cambridge and is also a member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE). They provide a wide variety of tests and exams that test the teachers and students in the four skills of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Why take Cambridge ESOL qualifications?

Outcome of BULATS
Each candidate who takes the test is given a rating between 1 and 100 which reflects levels ranging from beginner to near native speaker. They also receive certification and a report outlining their performance in each area. Their score is benchmarked against the Common European Framework of Reference Scale (CEFR) (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 & C2) and this will help to discern between students who are good in in language skills and those who need more support.

The ESOL Cambridge certificate is recognized by thousands of Educational organizations and employers throughout the world. Government agencies, Immigration authorities and professional bodies in many countries recognize this qualification. This recognition will give a student even from the remotest corner in the state to showcase his language skills which can provide easy employment options.
MoU’s
They have a number of MoU’s with state governments (Tamilnadu, Gujarat , MadyaPradesh, Haryana, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh) and Universities to offer their qualifications and these are widely recognized by Schools, Teachers Training institutions, individual companies as well as industry associations like Nasscom and CII.
Impact of Cambridge ESOL on JKCs
- They intend to support the JKC initiative of CCE by providing internationally recognized benchmark English language qualifications from Cambridge namely BULATS.
- Through their support they want to help the program managers of JKC to evaluate the efficiency of the trainings programs delivered
- They want to motivate students to opt for a Cambridge certificate and this would positively impact the language learning activity in the classroom.
- They are also ready to offer teacher training and orientation programmes to all the teachers of JKC which can help them support the training in JKCs.
- Work in partnership with CII and NASSCOM to identify language standards for different jobs and share the same with the students.
