Sri V. Devender,
Hon’ble Member, National Commission for Scheduled Castes
visited the Directorate of Collegiate Education,
Hyderabad
on 1.9.2006 to review the welfare activities carried out by the Directorate in its
offices and Government and
Aided Colleges
in the State under its control. He was accompanied by
Ms. Achamma James, Officer from the Commission. He reviewed the implementation of reservation
policy, measures on grievance redressal
of the staff, various welfare schemes carried out in the offices and colleges
and verified relevant records.
A meeting was held with the officers and the staff of the Directorate and the representatives of teacher associations. Dr. K. Lakshminarayana
, IAS, Director of Collegiate Education explained the various welfare schemes and measures undertaken by the Directorate in its offices and colleges.
Sri
Devender
appreciated the fact that Government and
Aided
Colleges predominantly serve the students from weaker sections of the society. He interacted with the officers and representatives of teacher associations and gave suggestions for improvement of various welfare measures. He commended the academic, co-curricular and welfare activities carried out by the Directorate for the benefit of the students in general and of the SC students in particular. He desired that the officers of the Directorate should have a positive attitude in settling the grievances of
SCs
.

, NAAC Accreditation etc. in Government Degree Colleges.
He also appreciated various initiatives taken by the Director for creating awareness in colleges on the need for specially attending to the educational needs of students from
marginalized sections.
